9/29/2001 We have had a lot going on around here lately. In the last few days we have weaned Wielka's filly as well as Aralina's. Both of the moms as well as the fillies are taking it quite well. Pete was out again yesterday and we got 6 more trimmed. He was shocked at Levi's feet. Pete even had me look at his foot while he was working on it. This guy is just a yearling and he said that if he had to put shoes on him right now they would be a 1! He just loves these big solid feet. He even made mention that Pharaoh had his father's feet with the nice heavy walls. What a farrier's dream these guys will be some day. 9/24/2001 Yesterday was pretty busy. I finally got Jerusalem's mane and tail washed and put show sheen on him. It took me well over 2 hours to make sure to preserve all of that beautiful mane. It is hard to believe but it is 44 inches long now! Yes, you read that right. Since he has been with us from birth we often forget what a truly special and beautiful boy he is. It's times like yesterday you just stand back and admire him in awe! I wish all of you could see him as he is not only a magnificent creature to look at but has the heart of lion and the gentleness of a puppy. 9/17/2001 We weaned Uzziel on Saturday. His mom has been pretty quiet and for the most part he has been too. The only time we really hear from him is first thing in the morning and now he is even more eager to get human attention. What a neat guy. 9/13/2001
9/9/2001 Pete was out earlier in the week and we got Jerusalem trimmed as well as Isaac and some of the mares. They are all pretty good to work with but we occasionally get chewed on by a curious foal when working on the moms. The weather is cooling off here and the horses have already started to put some fuzz on. It is frightening since this is almost a month early for that. We may be in for a cold winter! 9/5/2001 We were able to go by and visit Dawn and Adam this last Friday. Adam has changed so much that I barely recognized him. She has him doing a solid walk and trot, his canter is coming along nicely too. He is now so mellow and gentle that our 12 year old non horsy son rode him in the arena with quite a few other horses around him. It was wonderful. I also had the opportunity to meet Josh Lyons. He was not at all what I expected as he was very cordial, friendly and reachable. He seemed to be a genuinely good man who cares about not only the horses but the people who he is teaching. We were able to get video and pictures of Adam under saddle and will get some new photos up soon. |
