3/31/2003 Spring is on its way and the fields are getting a hint of green in them. The horses are also shedding by the handfuls and are keeping us very busy brushing. We bred our first mare of the year yesterday. It was Fancy, our National Show Horse mare. She is a grand old girl and has had some wonderful foals for us in the past. Since we are tying to cut back our herd we will only be breeding 4 this spring. 3/21/2003 The farrier was out today and finished up with the last 2 fillies. The weather has not been very nice so we had to work around it but at least we are finished for a little while now. The guy who is breaking some of the horses is doing great with them. He is working with two of our 4 year old fillies right now and will probably start Pharaoh and Levi in about a month or so. 3/11/2003 Tommy was out today to start Beth. She did great and he is already on her. It is amazing to watch him work. He is very gentle and the horses really respond well to him. It was nice to see what a good mind Beth has and how quickly she took to the whole thing. It won't be long now and I will be on her too. How exciting! 3/7/2003 The farrier was out today and we got Levi, Pharaoh, Uzziel and Jerusalem done. The young ones are really growing and they are all shedding like crazy right now. It is almost impossible to touch anybody without getting a face full of hair. Spring is definitely on its way! 3/6/2003 It is that time of year again. We have the vet take a look at all of our mares teeth and float all of them that need it. Dr. Eric will only do about 2 a day and then his elbow gives him grief so we got started yesterday with Darley and Bint Bint. We will be checking the rest over the next few weeks as he is in the area. |
